Parent Participation
Parents help in the classroom a little more than once a month for 2 ¾ hour and provide either the snack or the juice for that day. You will also have a committee assignment outside the classroom, for example, making playdough, helping with school social functions, sewing, etc. This amounts to about 1 additional hour each month. Parent helping is a condition of enrollment and is not an option. Only a parent or a designated helper may work your times in the classroom.

Committee Assignments
Committee assignments are valuable contributions to the quality of Small Friends. You are expected to participate in one committee's activities. The time contributed is approximately one hour a month or 9 hours per year, outside of class time; some activities are less, some are more. Participation in this assignment is not optional. If you cannot fulfill your responsibility, see your child's teacher about a possible switch to another committee.

A Typical Day's Progression
A parent arrives with their child 5 minutes before the start of the session. The session begins with 1.5 hours of free choice where children choose amongst a variety of activity areas such as blocks, art, dress up, computers, etc. During this time the parent will supervise the activity at the art, or the math and science table. Children are allowed to work as long or as little in different areas of the room. Parents will invite each child to participate in their activity. After free choice period one class will do outdoor time/snack/story time and the other will do story/snack/outdoor time so that when we are inside on a rainy day room, the room will have 20 children vs. 40 children for gross motor activities.
